Surely most of NYC, if not the world, has heard of Manhattanhenge by now – it’s that special time of the year when the setting Sun is aligned with the east-west streets of Manhattan.

This year the official Hayden Planetarium show and viewing is July 11, but the first Manhattanhenge of the year is this Thursday, May 29! So join Astronomy on Tap and Manhattanhenge expert Dr. Jackie Faherty for a viewing before the rest of the city catches on. We’ll meet on 42nd Street by Grand Central Station at 7:30 pm. The sun will be on the grid at 8:15 pm and setting just a few minutes later.

After sunset we’ll check out the constellations in Grand Central Terminal and head west to the star party at the Intrepid Museum, part of the World Science Festival. Don’t worry, there will be plenty of bars along the way if we get thirsty.
