AoT State College #1: April 10th

Astronomy on Tap has arrived in State College, PA! Held at Happy Valley Brewing Company, our events are free and open to all ages. Come join us for talks from local astronomers that are accessible to the public while enjoying a nice beer and good food!

Our inaugural event is Monday, April 10th from 5-7pm, where we’ll hear talks from local Penn State astronomers about space and astronomy in the recent news. First, we’ll hear from Dr. Thomas Beatty, a postdoctoral fellow, about the recently-discovered TRAPPIST-1 system of 7 planets and the prospects for life in the universe. Following that, graduate student Jonathan Jackson will talk about the recent movie Hidden Figures and discuss some of the other “Hidden Figures” in astronomy. We’ll end the night with a talk from professor Bekki Dawson, who will talk more about the TRAPPIST-1 system and the implications for habitability.

The first talk starts at 5:30, but come at 5 for a good seat and to take advantage of the 4-6pm happy hour.
