AoT Santa Cruz #3 – Black Holes – Thursday, April 5th, 2018 @ New Bohemia Brewing Co.

Mark your calendars!

Astronomy on Tap returns on Thursday, April 5th at 6:30 pm at New Bohemia Brewing Co, in Santa Cruz, CA.

Black Holes

This month, Astronomy on Tap will tackle a dense topic: black holes, the densest known objects in the Universe!  Did you know there is a hidden monster living in the center of every massive galaxy, including our own Milky Way?

With masses larger than a billion times that of the Sun, supermassive black holes are extreme objects and may drive the evolution of their host galaxies.  On the other hand, one way that stars can end their lives is to form much smaller black holes.

Join UCSC researchers Ignacio Martin-Navarro and Josiah Schwab to find which stars produce black holes and learn how we measure how big these black holes really are!

Our events are geared toward the general public, so please bring your curiosity, questions, and love for space. There will also be drink specials all night long as well as games, quizzes, and prizes! Astronomy on Tap is free of charge and open to anyone 21+.
