Astronomy on Tap -STL, 3/11/2019

Join us for the next Astronomy on Tap event in St. Louis!

Astronomy on Tap is a series of world-wide events in which professional astronomers give informal talks at a local bar on topics of broad interest in astronomy and astrophysics. Each event consists of two 10-15 min talks, followed by questions and comments. Speakers will mingle with the audience between the two talks, and there will also be a trivia session with questions related to astronomy. At the end of the night prizes will be handed to the winners!

For this evening of science, astro-trivia, prizes, and beer specials (by Urban Chestnut Brewing Company), the talks will be given by Chancellor Thomas F. George, chancellor and professor of chemistry and physics at the University of Missouri–St. Louis and Dr. Ryan N. Watkins, Research Scientist at the Planetary Science Institute. The titles are as follows:

“Molecular Soccer Balls from Outer Space” – Chancellor Thomas George (University of Missouri–St. Louis)

“New Views of the Moon: 50 Years Since Apollo” – Dr. Ryan N. Watkins (Planetary Science Institute)

Admission is free and all ages are welcome! UCBC has beer, soft drinks, and food for purchase. There is a parking lot on the East side of Urban Chestnut and street parking available too.

We present this event in partnership with the Academy of Science of St. Louis (https://www.academyofsciencestl.org/) and as part of JPL’s Solar System Ambassador program (https://solarsystem1.jpl.nasa.gov/ssa/home.cfm) through Solar System Ambassador Dr. Andrés Plazas (https://solarsystem1.jpl.nasa.gov/ssa/biography.cfm?US_ID=1945).
