AoT Leiden, Monday 27th May @ Grand Café de Burcht

Our next event will take place on Monday 27th of May at 20h in Grand Cafe De Burcht (Burgsteeg 14, 2312 JS Leiden). Join us for an evening of informal astronomy and great beer! Hans Huybrighs and Yamila Miguel will tell us about the moons and gas giants of the Solar System!

Hans Huybrighs is a research fellow at the European Space Agency. He studies the moons of the giant planet Jupiter and is involved in ESA’s upcoming JUpiter ICy moon Explorer (JUICE) mission. In this talk we will get to know Jupiter’s ice spewing, shape changing and fire breathing moons: Europa and Io.

Yamila Miguel is an assistant professor at Leiden Observatory. She wants to know if there are other solar systems like our own in the Universe, and for this she studies the atmospheres and interiors of planets in our solar system and beyond. She is part of the scientific team of the NASA Juno mission and during her talk she will tell us about the relevance of Jupiter and Saturn in the history of the solar system and what did we learn from this fascinating mission that has been orbiting the biggest giant in our solar system.

All ages and backgrounds welcome! The entry is free and no reservation is needed. We start at 20h but recommend you arrive early to save a seat and grab a drink. And of course, beside the talks, we will have fun games where you can win cool science prizes! More info: check out www.astronomyontap.nl!
