Astronomy on Tap ATX #60, September 17, 2019

On September 17, join Astronomy on Tap ATX for our 60th event!  At #AoTATX60, Dr. Niall Gaffney from the Texas Advanced Computing Center will tell us about big data in astronomy and how astronomers use supercomputers in their research.  It’s a TRAPPIST (Danny Krolikowski) will then tell us about the Dragonfly mission to send a robotic rotorcraft lander to Titan, the largest moon of Saturn, in an effort to study astrobiology and the extraterrestrial habitability.  Last but not least, Dr. Andrew Graus will bring us stories about experiments aiming at detecting dark matter in our Universe.  Meanwhile, art works by Eileen McKeon Butt, a contemporary and science artist will be on exhibition at the North Door during the show.

#AoTATX60 will be hosted by our Host Stars, Chaos Cloud (Rebecca Larson) and Deep Space Shine (Dr. Micaela Bagley)! In addition, #AoTATX60 will feature Astronomy News by Whatamerger Jr. (Jackie Champagne) and It’s a TRAPPIST (Danny Krolikowski), trivia, and new AoTATX merchandise.  Finally, we will have telescopes on hand to look for exciting objects in the night sky (weather permitting)! Join us for a night full of astronomy fun over pints of beer!

As always, AoTATX is FREE and open to all ages, and Pueblo Viejo will be open to purchase tacos! The North Door alley bar opens at 6pm. The show starts at 7:30pm. You can tweet with #AoTATX60 to ask questions during the show!  Find us on Facebook (Astronomy on Tap ATX), Twitter (@AoTATX), and Instagram (@AoTATX).
