Astronomy on Tap : Dust to Dust

Our next event will take place on Monday 25 November at 20:00 in Grand Cafe De Burcht (Burgsteeg 14, 2312 JS Leiden). Join us for an evening of informal astronomy and great beer! Michal Bulak and Dario Campisi will tell us about the exciting chemistry of the Universe.

Michal Bulak is a graduate student in the Laboratory for Astrophysics at Leiden University. His current experimental work focuses on tracking the processes triggered by UV-light in ices that are rich in cosmic carbon. His talk will argue that carbon could be either a “blessing or a curse”, depending on the perspective.

Dario Campisi is a PhD candidate at Leiden University and one of the early stage researcher of the Marie Curie training network EUROPAH. He is a quantum chemist working in astronomy and, his PhD research concerns the reactivity and catalytic properties of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in gas and solid phase. Dario will talk about the activities that an early stage researcher accomplish in a European Training network.

All ages and backgrounds welcome! The entry is free and no reservation is needed. We start at 20h but recommend you arrive early to save a seat and grab a drink. And of course, beside the talks, we will have fun games where you can win cool science prizes! More info: check out www.astronomyontap.nl!
