AoT Köln: Online Event #10, 3 June 2021

Join our next event on 3 June! This time we will learn about how we study star formation in our galaxy from Dr. Veena Vadamattom Shaji 🙂 Veena is a postdoctoral researcher at the Universität zu Köln. We will be live on YouTube at 19:00 CEST on Thursday, 3 June 2021.

Title: “Galactic Star Formation: A Multiwavelength Perspective”

Summary: “Stars are formed out of dense molecular clouds within the galaxies. In the initial stages of evolution, they remain heavily embedded within these dense clouds that are opaque to visible light. Thus, it is observationally challenging to study the early phases of star formation with optical telescopes. However, these clouds are transparent to infrared and radio waves, allowing astronomers to probe deep into the stellar nurseries. In this presentation, I will discuss about what information is revealed by observing star forming regions in the Milky Way at different wavelength bands across the electromagnetic spectrum and how to interpret them.”
