Astronomy on Tap ATX #17: March 22 at The North Door

We’re a bit later in the month than usual due to SXSW, but since we’re on the 4th Tuesday of the month in March, we figured we’d have 4 awesome out-of-town presenters for y’all!

Detecting Gravitational Waves with Advanced LIGO
Dennis Ugolini, a member of the LIGO Scientific Collaboration, will talk about how they detected mirrors moving less than the width of a proton, due to 2 black holes merging.

Life In the Universe
Joel Green, AoTATX alum and a co-organizer of AoT Baltimore, will discuss how astronomers are searching for life in our own Solar System, throughout our Milky Way Galaxy, and beyond.

SCIWARS: Dark Side Tactics to Fight for Science
Jayde Lovell, from ScIQ on The Young Turks Network, will teach us all how to effectively argue against the anti-science lobby.

Not That Long Ago in a Galaxy Close, Close By
Summer Ash, of Columbia University and Startorialist, will discuss real-life exoplanets that correspond to planets in the Star Wars Universe.

The North Door, 502 Brushy St., Austin, TX 78702

Tuesday, March 22, 7.30pm (trivia starts at 7pm)
