AoT Santa Cruz #2 – Giant Telescopes – Thursday, March 1, 2018 @ New Bohemia Brewing Co.

Mark your calendars!

Astronomy on Tap is back on Thursday, March 1 at 6:30 pm at New Bohemia Brewing Co, in Santa Cruz, CA.

Giant Telescopes

This month we’ll be exploring the science and engineering behind some of the biggest telescopes in the world, hosted by Professor Bob Kirshner, who led research on supernova 1987A and worked to discover the accelerating expansion of the universe.

We’ll hear from Deno Stelter, a post-doc working on improving adaptive optics systems on the world’s largest telescopes, and Professor Mike Bolte, former Director of UC Observatories and champion of the Thirty Meter Telescope, on the technology behind giant, segmented telescope mirrors.

Of course, we’ll also have games, quizzes, and swag! As always, please bring your curiosity, questions, and love for space!
