AoT Santa Cruz #9 – Simulating the Universe – Thursday, November 1st, 2018 @ New Bohemia Brewing Co.

Mark your calendars!

Astronomy on Tap returns on Thursday, November 1st at 6:30 pm at New Bohemia Brewing Co, in Santa Cruz, CA.

Simulating the Universe

At this month’s Astronomy on Tap we’ll be talking about how we leverage the power of supercomputing for astronomy!  This takes two main pathways: simulating the things we can’t directly see, and squeezing more information from what we can see with our telescopes.  UCSC graduate student Eric Gentry and a special guest will show how these approaches can help us understand things from the climates on other planets, to what happens when stars explode, and how galaxies form.

Our events are for everyone, so please bring your curiosity, questions, and love for space. Happy hour extends for the duration of the event, in addition to food trucks, trivia, and swag! Astronomy on Tap is free of charge and open to all ages
