Astronomy on Tap San Francisco – August 2026

Local astronomers talking about stars, planets, and the universe at your neighborhood bar. No PhD required.
Tickets here.
Astronomy on Tap is is a free public lecture series where astronomers give short, laid-back talks over drinks at local bars. No background in science required — our scientists share cool stuff about space while the audience sits back and relaxes, with plenty of time to indulge their curiosity and ask whatever questions they want.
This month, we’re hosting:
Jean Somalwar (Stanford/UC Berkeley) – If You Give a Black Hole a Cookie
and
Steve Croft (SETI) – Can Artificial Intelligence Discover Extraterrestrial Intelligence?
Somalwar is a joint MultiRAPTOR Postdoctoral Fellow at UC Berkeley and Kavli Fellow at Stanford. Croft is an Adjunct Senior Astronomer at the SETI Institute and Project Scientist for the Breakthrough Listen project.
Astronomy on Tap takes place in cities all over the world. This is a revival of the San Francisco chapter, which regularly hosted events before the pandemic. We’re excited to be back on a monthly basis!
The event is free, but there is a 1 drink minimum. Food (tacos) will be available with vegetarian options.
