SUMMARY:Astronomy on Tap Lausanne #15
DESCRIPTION:For this fifteenth edition of Astronomy on Tap\, we are diving into some important questions: while humanity is exploring space\, are we sure we’re not trashing the place? Tonight\, let’s talk about space pollution\, from dead satellites to fragments travelling at 28\,000 km/h. \nJoining us are: \n• Chloé Carrière : She will present “Espace Commun”\, a project that is all about answering questions on space\, regardless of who is asking. \n• Élise Thérond : She will explain the OrbitAL project :  developing a sensor to study stratospheric metal deposits from spacecraft re-entry and their reactivity e.g. with ozone\, using custom sampling hardware and biosensor cells. \n• Angelina Frolova : She will explain the burden shifting problem within the space sustainability paradox : when we encourage de-orbiting satellites\, which burn in the atmosphere as they re-enter causing atmospheric pollution. \nGet ready for an evening filled with fascinating discussions\, science\, and great company!

SUMMARY:Astronomy on Tap - Orlando Event #35: Bennu There\, Done That!
DESCRIPTION:Greetings\, Space Nerds! 🚀✨ \nWe’re back for Astronomy on Tap Orlando Event #35! Join us at Bruder Brewery & Kitchen on Thursday\, October 1st\, from 7–9 PM for another out-of-this-world evening of space science\, drinks\, and cosmic conversation! 🍻🌌 \nWe’ll kick off the night with Dr. Lucas Smith\, a postdoctoral scholar in UCF’s Department of Physics\, as he takes us on a journey with the OSIRIS-REx mission to Bennu and back\, exploring the mission’s incredible journey and some of the exciting science coming from the samples it brought home. Then\, Lorraine Rosello Del Valle will take us even closer to the action\, revealing how space weathering has altered the samples returned from Bennu and what those changes can tell us about this ancient asteroid. \nThis is definitely an AoT you do NOT want to miss! As always\, we’ll wrap up the night with a round of space trivia\, where you’ll have a chance to win some fun astronomy-themed prizes! 🪐🏆 \nBe sure to like\, follow\, and subscribe to keep up with all our upcoming events and spacey adventures! \nTwitter/X & Instagram: @aotorlando\nYouTube & Facebook: Astronomy on Tap Orlando \nHave questions? SUMMARY:Astronomy on Tap Black Warrior Basin: A Dead Star's Tale
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Druid City Brewing Company on October 4th at 7:00pm for Astronomy on Tap! Learn about Type IA supernovae\, hear the latest astronomy news\, play trivia to win out-of-this-world prizes\, and of course\, enjoy Druid City brews on tap. \nWhite dwarf supernovae (aka Type Ia supernovae) are some of the brightest explosions in the Universe that are born from the death of a sun-like star in a binary system. They are also one of astronomy’s most important tools\, used to measure distances to faraway galaxies and to understand dark energy\, the mysterious force driving the expansion of our Universe. But how much do we actually know about how these explosions form? Come find out with Nethra Rajavel\, a PhD Candidate at the University of Alabama studying Astronomy!  \nAstronomy on Tap is a FREE series of events aimed at making the latest research in astronomy and space accessible to the public with fun talks\, games\, and plenty of time for mingling between local astronomers and guests.

SUMMARY:Astronomy on Tap Bristol: AI in Astronomy and Galaxy Clusters
DESCRIPTION:NO TICKETS NEEDED \nAstronomy on Tap Bristol is back with another set of talks for our next event: join us at The Lansdown on Wednesday\, the 14th of October for an exciting evening of astronomy! \nOur next Bristol event features talks by Dr. Grant Stevens\, a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Bristol\, who will talk to us about how we use AI in astronomy followed by Ileana Klein\, a University of Bristol Ph.D. researcher\, explaining how astronomers use different wavelengths of light to study galaxy clusters. We will also have an astronomy themed quiz where you can win some prizes! \nThe event is FREE and all are welcome! We operate on a first come first-seated basis\, so make sure you get there on time to secure a chair. \nGiving AI a Telescope: What Could Possibly Go Wrong? – Grant Stevens \nAI is getting very good at spotting patterns\, making predictions\, and occasionally getting things very wrong. In this talk\, we’ll look at some of AI’s more entertaining mistakes\, then ask what happens when we point it at the night sky. Can it find new stars and galaxies or just invent them? And how do we know when to trust what it sees? \nUnveiling the Secrets of Galaxy Clusters: More Than Meets the Naked Eye – Ileana Klein \nIs your favourite flavour of astrophysics black holes? Or cosmology? Or perhaps you’re a fan of all astrophysics? Galaxy clusters contain all your favourite things and more! As the largest gravitationally bound structures in the Universe\, galaxy clusters are sensitive to most astrophysics\, and looking at them at different wavelengths can unveil different extraordinary characteristics and processes. From the famous Bullet Cluster to the new FornaX survey\, we’ll explore how the Euclid and XMM-Newton telescopes give us different views of these giant systems and what we can learn through their complimentary observations. \nWhere? \nFind us upstairs at the Lansdown in Clifton! \nThe Lansdown \n8 Clifton Road \nBristol BS8 1AF \nWhen? \n14th October \nDoors open at 18:00\, first talk at 18:30! \nAstronomy on Tap Bristol runs every month\, dates may change while we get settled into a routine! \n About Astronomy on Tap \nAstronomy on Tap is a monthly astronomy outreach event that takes place all around the world. Events feature accessible\, engaging presentations on space and science topics ranging from planets to black holes to galaxies to the beginning of the Universe\, along with trivia\, games\, prizes\, music\, and other surprises!

SUMMARY:Astronomy on Tap Hawai'i: Nāpōwawā`enakaulua
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Wednesday\, October 14th from 7–9 pm at Hale Kanikapila for a night of casual astronomy! This month\, we’re diving into Nāpōwawā`enakaulua: the story of a supermassive black hole twin at the edge of the Universe. Silvia Onorato and Devin Chu will share the recent scientific discovery\, along with the Hawaiian naming and its cultural relevance. Come hang out\, learn something new\, and test your knowledge in our quiz for a chance to win prizes! Everyone is welcome\, no astronomy background needed. \nSilvia Onorato – The scientific discovery from Maunakea and space telescopes \nWhat’s better than a supermassive black hole swallowing matter at the dawn of the Universe? Two of them\, side by side! Silvia Onorato from the Gemini North Observatory will guide you through the exploration of a rare black hole twin system observed when the cosmos was less than a billion years old. \nSilvia was born and raised in Sicily\, in Southern Italy. Passionate about science\, she is now a postdoc at the Gemini Observatory working to understand the early Universe through supermassive black holes. She received her Master’s degree in Astrophysics and Cosmology from the University of Bologna (Italy) in 2021 and completed her Ph.D. at Leiden Observatory (the Netherlands) in 2025. Besides science\, she is very passionate about traveling\, paddling (go Puna!)\, skiing\, volleyball\, music\, and books. \nDevin Chu – The Hawaiian naming and cultural relevance \nGiven the relevance of Maunakea in this discovery\, through the A Hua He Inoa program at `Imiloa Astronomy Center of Hawai’i\, the following name was given to the double quasar system: Nāpōwawā`enakaulua. This translates to “Two celestial bodies of fathomless powerful darkness (black holes) in the brilliance of heat reincarnating energy into the Universe” in the indigenous Hawaiian language\, ‘ōlelo. Devin Chu from `Imiloa will describe how the name was given by Larry Kimura\, professor of Hawaiian Language and Hawaiian Studies at Ka Haka ʻUla O Keʻelikōlani/College of Hawaiian Language. \nDevin Chu was raised in Hilo\, Hawaiʻi – a community situated down the slopes of Maunakea\, Hawaiʻi Island. His relationship with the astronomy community played a large role in inspiring him to become an astronomer. Devin attended Dartmouth College and received his Bachelor’s degree in Physics and Astronomy. Devin then attended the University of California\, Los Angeles and received his PhD in Astronomy and Astrophysics under the supervision of Professor Andrea Ghez and Professor Tuan Do. Devin’s research interests include studying stars orbiting the Milky Way Galaxy’s central supermassive black hole using spectroscopy with adaptive optics to better understand the stellar dynamics and populations of the region. Devin has since returned to his hometown of Hilo with his young family and serves as the Astronomer in Residence at the ʻImiloa Astronomy Center of Hawaiʻi. Devin has been involved with the A Hua He Inoa program\, a collaborative effort led by ʻImiloa\, which is shifting global paradigms\, positioning Hawai‘i as the first place in the world to weave traditional indigenous practices into the process of officially naming astronomical discoveries.
