AotATX Presents: Astronomy at the Winery

September 26 @ 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM EDT

Free
It’s September. Throughout the northern hemisphere the grape harvest is in full swing. The fall equinox marks the start of autumn, meaning cooler weather and shorter days.
But what is an equinox? Why is it in September? What does astronomy have to do with it?
Dr. Brian W. Mulligan will guide us through the history of calendars to learn
  • What is a year, and how did we figure it out?
  • How do solstices and equinoxes relate to the Earth’s orbit around the Sun?
  • How have agriculture, war, religion, politics, and astronomy influenced the development of our calendar?
Come join us for a relaxed evening, learning a little astronomy over a glass of wine.
