Astronomy on Tap in the Triangle: Hunting Cosmic Fireworks and Hungry Black Holes

Come check out Astronomy on Tap Triangle, our North Carolina chapter of short and engaging talks about astronomy over beer. You will find us in the taproom of Durty Bull Brewing Company in Durham, NC from 7-8:30 PM on Wednesday, February 4th!

Look up on a clear night and the sky seems calm and unchanging. But our telescopes tell a very different story: massive stars die in spectacular explosions, black holes devour stars passing too close, and ultra-dense objects collide in flashes of light we can detect from millions of light years away. These cosmic dramas hold the key to understanding the Universe and where we come from. Every atom in your body was forged in a stellar explosion. So grab your drink and join us as Dr. Igor Andreoni takes us through these cosmic fireworks and shows us the giant new telescopes we’re building to catch them as they happen.
