Astronomy on Tap Louisville – Flashpoints in the Milky Way

Our sun erupts periodically, giving off coronal mass ejections. They
produce pretty northern lights, slightly speed the (slow) erosion of
planetary atmospheres and could overload satellite and power grid
circuits. We just detected the first around another star which would
have knocked off a planet’s atmosphere. Come hear about detecting
ejections around other stars!
