Get excited for Astronomy on Tap at Bickerson’s Brewhouse in Ballard at 7pm!
This month we are featuring two rising stars in the undergraduate astronomy program at the University of Washington!
Each FREE Astronomy on Tap event features accessible, engaging science presentations on topics ranging from planets to black holes to the beginning of the Universe. Most events have games and prizes to test and reward your new-found knowledge! There is always lots of time to ask questions and interact with the presenters and other scientists who inevitably stick around for the beer.

Speaker Bios:
Speaker: Samuel Darian McCarty
Bio: Sam is a third-year student at the University of Washington studying physics and astronomy, intending to enter graduate school in astrophysics and pursue a career in professional research. He is passionate about space science and using his education to give back to the community. Outside of school, Sam enjoys being active, playing guitar, and holding a leadership position in his fraternity.
Speaker: Ishan Ghosh-Coutinho
Bio: Ishan Ghosh-Coutinho is a graduating senior at the University of Washington, finishing a Bachelor of Science in Astronomy with a minor in Design for Performing Arts. Their research has involved spectroscopic and time-domain studies of stars, particularly massive stars, aimed at preparing for the big data era from surveys like the Vera C. Rubin Observatory’s Legacy Survey of Space and Time aswell as the next generation of space observatories like JWST and Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope. In addition to their research, they mentor a couple of local high school robotics teams, play DnD, work in student advocacy, and is currently working as the lead costume designer for the university’s spring production of ‘Airness.’
