Astronomy on Tap: Cosmic Monsters

November 19, 2022 @ 6:30 PM - 10:00 PM CET

The Universe is big and dark. So it’s no wonder there are some monsters lurking in the shadows. In this edition of Astronomy on Tap Copenhagen, we will get to know planets that are so hot even stone evaporates as well as quasars which are some of the brightest objects in the Universe.
Our speakers are:
Beatriz Campos Estrada: Extrasolar planets appear in all sizes and colours: they can be made of different materials, they can be cold, they can be hot, or both. Some of them are so hot that they are melting away, almost like a shooting star. In her talk she will tell us more about these melting worlds along with an overview of how diverse the extrasolar planet population is
and
Marianne Vestergaard: What is a quasar? Why are astronomers so interested in finding the very first quasars that were created after the Big Bang? Why isn’t it enough to find the first stars and galaxies? She will address these questions in her talk
Schedule:
18:30: Doors open to the STARDUST Room
19:00: Beatriz Campos Estrada – Evaporating planets
19:30: Quiz and break
20:00: Marianne Vestergaard – Quasars
Quiz! Join the half time quiz for a chance to win some drinks vouchers and test your knowledge about space monsters.
Astronomy on Tap is a (FREE) series of events aimed at making the latest research in astronomy and space accessible to the public, with fun talks given in simple ENGLISH, and quiz, and plenty of time for mingling between our speakers and guests.
