Astronomy on Tap Flagstaff | How Stars Shape Worlds
May 28 @ 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM MST
FreeJoin Lowell Observatory and Mother Road Brewing Co. on May 28th at 6:30pm for Astronomy on Tap! Listen to fascinating science talks, play trivia to win out-of-this-world prizes, and of course, enjoy Mother Road brews on tap.
This month’s speaker is Lowell astronomer Dr. Tyler Richey-Yowell, who will talk about how stars shape the planets that orbit them! The recent total solar eclipse was one of the few times we can see the Sun’s corona with our own eyes. While the corona appears invisible to us most of the time, it’s actually a big driver of why Earth, Mars, and the other solar system planets have the atmospheres (or lack thereof) that they do. Our Sun isn’t the only star that has a corona, however. Missions such as JWST are actively studying exoplanets as they eclipse their host star to understand how these planets are being shaped by their own star’s corona. We’ll see you there!
