With us Dr Grigoris Maravelias from the National Observatory of Athens! Dr Maravelias graduated from the School of Applied Mathematics and Physical Sciences of the National Technical University of Athens (Greece) in 2004, and he obtained his MSc from the University of Crete in 2007. With funding from the State Scholarship Foundation of Greece he initiated his journey in professional Astronomy by obtaining a PhD from the University of Crete (2010-2014). Since then he moved for work to Czechia (2014-2016) and Chile (2017) before returning to Greece (2017). Since 2018 he is employed at National Observatory of Athens. His research focuses on massive stars, X-ray binaries, and lately machine-learning applications. He is also a strong supporter of Professional-Amateur networking and collaborations, and Openness in Astronomy.
