Astronomy on Tap Lausanne #15

For this fifteenth edition of Astronomy on Tap, we are diving into some important questions: while humanity is exploring space, are we sure we’re not trashing the place? Tonight, let’s talk about space pollution, from dead satellites to fragments travelling at 28,000 km/h.

Joining us are:

• Chloé Carrière : She will present “Espace Commun”, a project that is all about answering questions on space, regardless of who is asking.

• Élise Thérond : She will explain the OrbitAL project :  developing a sensor to study stratospheric metal deposits from spacecraft re-entry and their reactivity e.g. with ozone, using custom sampling hardware and biosensor cells.

• Angelina Frolova : She will explain the burden shifting problem within the space sustainability paradox : when we encourage de-orbiting satellites, which burn in the atmosphere as they re-enter causing atmospheric pollution.

Get ready for an evening filled with fascinating discussions, science, and great company!
