Astronomy on Tap NYC #136 – Eclipse!

March 19 @ 6:45 PM - 8:15 PM EDT

Free

Join us for the 136th Astronomy on Tap NYC event, and the next in our monthly series at Pete’s Candy Store! Astronomy on Tap is fun and informative, with professional scientists and educators plus games, prizes, and a bit of learning while drinking.

This month, we will preview the upcoming Total Solar Eclipse, happening on April 8 in the mid-afternoon! While we won’t get totality here in NYC, 90% of the sun will be covered – we’ll explain all the details. PLUS – a free pair of eclipse glasses for each attendee (and more available for sale!)

Speakers
Matt Stanley, historian of science at NYU, telling the 100+ year old tale of Einstein betting everything on an eclipse. His ideas were both scientifically & politically radical, and all came down to a few minutes of darkness and a few points of light on a photograph.
•and Kaitlin Schmidt, astronomy educator at AMNH, with all the details for 2024 eclipse details and how you can safely view it.

Co-hosted by Astro on Tap’s MC Tycho Brewhaha, aka Brian Levine, and MC Annie Drunk Cannon, aka Kaitlin Schmidt, we will have trivia for prizes after the talks. Doors open at 6:45pm, event start at 7pm SHARP. Arrive early to get your seats, grab a drink, and settle in for science talks, trivia, prizes, and fun!
