Astronomy on Tap Seattle: November 30th (7pm) at Bickersons Brewhouse (Ballard)

First, Trent Thomas will talk about why we should be excited about Mars and his research involving the red planet! Then, Chester Li will talk about the search for life in the universe and the lore of “Little Green Men”!

Each FREE Astronomy on Tap event features accessible, engaging science presentations on topics ranging from planets to black holes to the beginning of the Universe. Most events have games and prizes to test and reward your new-found knowledge! There is always lots of time to ask questions and interact with the presenters and other scientists who inevitably stick around for the beer.

Speaker Bios:
Trent Thomas is a PhD student in the Earth and Space Sciences and
Astrobiology Departments at the University of Washington. He has done research for NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory and has a B.S. in
Astrophysics from UCLA. Trent’s research is generally focused on the
geochemistry of rocky planets. He currently works on projects relating
to Mars’s ancient atmosphere and extreme glaciation on ancient Earth
that have lead to several academic publications and conference
presentations.

Chester Li is a 1st-year Astronomy and Astrobiology Dual-Titled Ph.D. student at the University of Washington. This June, he graduated from UCLA with the Highest Honors in Astrophysics and Geophysics, as well as the title of Salutatorian of the Department of Earth, Planetary, and Space Sciences. His past research topics include star formation, low surface brightness structures of galaxies, search for extraterrestrial intelligence, cataclysmic variables, telescope operation, and data processing. He is now studying Trojan asteroids around Jupiter using data from the Zwicky Transient Facility
