Light never breaks the speed limit, but it loves to bend the rules. Those rules that say things like, “always travel in a straight line.” Complete rubbish! Things get a little crazy when light gets bent, but honestly, we’re here for it. Whether it’s passing through a cloud of interstellar dust, or through Earth’s atmosphere, or through the gravitational field of a distant planet, or a galaxy cluster(!)… the light we receive here on Earth may have taken a strange, exotic journey, and understanding that journey is key to unlocking some of the Universe’s most astonishing secrets.

At ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ผ๐พ๐๐, we’ll be talking about the wild ride some photons take on their way to our eyes and our telescopes, and what we learn about the Universe by studying these phenomena. Featuring talks by Dr. Daniel Baker (‘Scintillating Science and Naturally Occurring Telescopes’) and Yu-Hsiu Huang (“Einstein’s Lens”).
