Astronomy on Tap Tucson #107: Binary Stars & Black Holes

May 20, 2025 @ 7:30 PM - 9:30 PM MST
Advertisement for Space Drafts 107. The Space Drafts logo is in the center with speaker headshots to the left and right. Text describes the talk titles, speaker names, event location information, and livestream link. The background shows two talk-related images. On the left is an image of a binary star system and the corresponding brightness of the system as a function of time. On the right are several artist's impressions of black holes, each surrounded by an orange disk.

Tucson’s local flavor of Astronomy on Tap, Space Drafts, is excited to present its 106th edition! This month, we’ll be joined by Steward postdoc Dr. Koushik Sen, who will be talking about eclipsing binary stars, and Steward graduate student Vikram Manikantan giving us the run down on black holes!

A Brief History (and Future) of Black Holes – Vikram Manikantan

We’ll be out on the patio of the Toole location of Borderlands Brewing Company (119 E. Toole Ave, Tucson AZ, accessible via stairs and a ramp) and livestreaming at bit.ly/SpaceDrafts107 at 7:30pm MST on May 20. There is street parking near the venue, and several bus lines run to the Toole/7th Ave. bus stop right next door. If you’re feeling up for a bit of walking, the Sun Link street car runs to Congress/6th Ave (if going westbound) or Broadway/Church (if going eastbound), about half a mile away from Borderlands.
