Radiation Support for Human Spaceflight Operations

Abstract: A constant threat to the survivability of humans in space is radiation, and as NASA plans to return to the moon and eventually travel beyond this threat only grows. This talk will discuss the sources of space radiation and the hazards space radiation can cause on the human body. We’ll cover mitigation and shielding against the radiation before moving into how space weather can drive radiation hazards. The talk will conclude briefly discussing the upcoming solar eclipse and the space weather science that can be done during an eclipse.
