“Little Red Dots” are a recent discovery from the James Webb Space Telescope. They are found in the distant Universe, corresponding to a few hundred million years after the Big Bang, and nothing like them exists in the local Universe. They are only 2% of the size of our Milky Way Galaxy, and have blue colors in local optical light, but red colors in local infrared light. This makes them appear like two different populations: supermassive black holes accreting gas for the blue colors, but dusty star-forming galaxies for the red colors. Come hear details with Benne Holwerda! We will meet on Wed Mar 5 at 7pm at Monnik Beer Co., 1036 E Burnett, Louisville KY 40217 in the Upper Room.
