NYC’s first live AoT event in over two years! Join your hosts Mark Popinchalk (CUNY/AMNH) & Afra Ashraf (Barnard/AMNH) for two stellar talks by Katie Breivik (Flatiron CCA) and Robert Song (CUNY/AMNH), fantastic games and quizzes, and beer at Pete’s Candy Store on June 14 at 7pm!! Doors open at 6:50
- Dr. Katie Breivik is is a Flatiron Research Fellow at the Center for Computational Astrophysics and studies how pairs of stars, called binary stars, evolve throughout their lives to produce compact objects like white dwarfs, neutron stars, and black holes. She grew up under the stars in Salt Lake City, Utah and has spent most of her adult life trying to remember what they look like as she’s hopped between the light pollution of Chicago, Toronto, and New York. In her spare time, she enjoys walking across the Williamsburg bridge and watching every bit of RuPaul’s Drag Race content that has ever existed.
- Dr. Robert Song is a CUNY Graduate Center and American Museum of Natural History recent PhD graduate studying gamma ray astrophysics. Robert’s talk will be talking tonight about “Binaries: More Exciting Than You Think”.
