Astronomy on Tap Triangle – Other worlds

April 5, 2022 @ 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM EDT

Come check out Astronomy on Tap Triangle, our North Carolina chapter of short and engaging talks about astronomy over beer. Find us in the taproom of Fullsteam Brewery in Durham, NC — this is our thirty-third event held from 7-9 PM on Tuesday, April 5th!

Join us for a drink and learn about other worlds! First, Stephen Schmidt (UNC-CH) will be talking about “The Recipe for Another Earth.” When our solar system originally formed, a whole lot of stuff had to go right to get a planet as unique as Earth. As it turns out, there are lots of other planets sitting around waiting to be discovered, some of which might be like Earth! What can we learn about them based on what their host stars are made of, and how does that affect what these potential Earth doppelgangers will be like?

Then, Madyson Barber (UNC-CH) will teach us more about how we can discover these new worlds using techniques like transit photometry and young associations.

Be sure to get there on time for a quick round of astronomy trivia and prizes!

There is always lots of time to ask questions and interact with the presenters and other scientists who inevitably stick around for the beer.

Be sure to follow us on Twitter and Facebook to get updates on future events.
