Astronomy on Tap Champaign-Urbana: July, 21, 2022
July 21, 2022 @ 7:30 PM - 9:00 PM EDT
*NEW TIME AND LOCATION!* Join us IN-PERSON at 7:30pm Thursday, 7/21 for this month’s Astronomy on Tap at Rose Bowl Tavern University of Illinois graduate student Gabriela Torrini will be talking about your worst summer nightmare: sunburns! Humans love summer: it’s the season of vacation, optimal ice cream consumption, and soaking up sunshine. But regardless of your ability to tan, prolonged sun exposure can pose serious risks to everyone’s health. In this talk, we’ll learn the answers to questions like: What is UV light? Why do we tan vs. burn? How does sunscreen work? What role do magnetic fields and atmospheres play in protecting us from the Sun?
Gabrela Torrini is a Master of Science student in the Department of Astronomy. She studies dwarf AGNs with Professor Xin Liu. In her free time, you can catch Gabriela cooking, listening to way too many podcasts, and applying SPF 50 sunscreen.
Grab a drink, bring your friends and family, and let’s have some fun while we learn! We hope to see you there!
