Astronomy on Tap Los Angeles: October 17-19, 2016

This month we are celebrating Pasadena Astronomy Week by hosting three Astronomy on Tap events in a row with a packed lineup of great speakers!  On Monday, October 17 we will have talks by Dr. Astrid Lamberts: “Where is LIGO’s Detection?” and Dr. Ji Wang: “No More Twinkle Little Star”.  Join us Tuesday, October 18 for talks by Dr. Alex Urban: “Seeing Gravitational Wave Sources” and Dr. Eric Bellm: “Old Telescope Learns New Tricks”.  Finally on Wednesday, October 19, we will hear from Denise Schmitz: “What is Dark Matter?”, and Dr. James Ashley: “Meteorites on Other Planets”.

After our successful debut of Astronomy on Tap in Los Angeles last month with 70 attendees, we are ready to raise the bar in July.  Join us at 7:30PM, Monday, July 25th at Der Wolfskopf Pub in Pasadena, CA.  We’ll feature talks by Dr. Rahul Patel: “Jupiter: Exposed” touching on the recent Juno spacecraft orbit around Jupiter, and Dr. Rachael Beaton: “The First Beer Came from Space” regarding the extraterrestrial origins of our favorite beverage.  In addition, we will host an astronomically-themed quiz with great space-related prizes for our winners.  We’ll also have a panel Q&A with the many astronomers present, so bring all of your science related questions to stump our experts!

AoTLosAngeles Event #1 – June 20th, 2016

 

Los Angeles is finally joining the Astronomy on Tap posse with a series of monthly events headlined by researchers at Caltech, JPL, Carnegie, UCLA, and more.  Our inaugural event will occur at 7:30PM, Monday, June 20th at Der Wolfskopf in Pasadena, CA.  The event will feature talks by Dr. Jessie Christiansen: “Exoplanet Roulette: Guess Your Fate”  and Dr. Adric Riedel: “Warp Speed is not Enough–Interstellar Travel in Sci-Fi”.  In addition, there will be an optional science quiz with prizes and a panel Q&A for all of the astronomers present, so bring your questions!
