Professor Jocelyn Read will explain why the universe ripples when two neutron stars collide, and why the recent detection of these ripples (or gravitational waves) is so important. Then, follow Dr. Rana Ezzeddine to the source of all the gold and uranium in the Universe.

We are back with our first fall event, this month! This event will take place at the Asgard Irish Pub in Cambridge. Science writer Maia Weinstock will tell us about her upcoming Women of NASA Lego set, and the path she took to make it happen. Dr. Carl Rodriguez will talk about the ground-breaking detection of gravitational waves from merging neutron stars! As usual, we will also have astro news and astronomy-themed games with prizes.

Astronomy on Tap Boston – June 12, 2017

Our June event will take place at a brand new venue: the Bell in Hand Tavern, located in the heart of Boston. This month, our theme is the search for alien life, and will feature talks by MIT astronomer Diana Dragomir and astrochemist Clara Sousa Silva. As usual, we will also have astro news and astronomy-themed games with prizes (including eclipse glasses and AoT Boston beer mugs!). Event is free of charge. Must be 21 years or older.
