AoT Köln: Online Event #7, 4 March 2021

In our seventh event we will learn about polar lights from our very own Aleena Baby! Aleena is a doctoral candidate at the Universität zu Köln. Her presentation will be on the origin and history of polar lights such as the Aurora Borealis. Join us live on YouTube at 19:00 CET to quench your thirst for science!

Summary: “Aurora” or “polar light” is a natural light display predominantly seen in high-latitude regions. Interactions of the solar wind with the magnetic field of the earth make these polar lights. The excited electrons emit energy in form of light which causes different colours. Apart from the physics behind it, I will explain the history and how to observe polar lights.

Her talk will be followed by a brief discussion on recent events in astronomy.
